Flora or Fauna

There are a pair of wood pigeons trying to build a nest

in the middle of my life, which is bound to cause some strife,

for they’re messy birds at best and will wreak havoc

if they’re left to their own devices on my balcony.

But I do like to hear them coo, so have I met my Waterloo?

Wave Form

Harrowing is the Reaper as he grimly claws,

erasing memories as waves denude the sands,

casting cruel aspersions on all our tainted lands,

salvaged from the seven seas by Dutch-like enterprise.

And when he does come knocking it’s always a surprise,

which gives the least abundant sinner pause,

when he escapes their eyes.

The Duckling

Skimming the water like a fluffy yellow hovercraft,

barely formed beak and feet so sweet they’d make you laugh,

tinier than a tennis ball but with just as much chutzpah,

the duckling runs the pond’s surface like a James Bond car.
